Enough

Hope had three violent tantrums yesterday. The Dad  was the focus of all three. GB came home with a blank worksheet, stamped sign and return. She wasn’t sure what  she was suppose to do with it. After ten minutes, she was completely dysregulated. I sent an email to Mr.Teacher that said WTF, only in a politically correct manor. I am so ready for the school year to be done. I am seriously considering home schooling GB next year.

  1. Most people thought we were crazy to homeschool our RAD/FASD child. They thought she would destroy our home, disturb our little homeschool and drive me out of my mind. That has not been the case. We have found that taking all of those extra people out of the equation decreased her ability to triangulate. She is disruptive at times, but I am sooooo GLAD that we have homeschooled her all of these years, She is making progress and is not learning all of the negative “skills” of other emotionally disturbed children.

  2. I bet the two of you would do very well in a nice little homeschool setting. Worksheets are worthless no matter who pulls them out!
I keep hoping that each of Hope's escalations means that this is extinction behavior, and that the help is so new that she is escalating to see if it's going to stick…and on the other side, she will finally feel safe and start attaching.
Is the assistance time-limited or are the helpers just shocked at Hope's intensity? It just seems to me that her RAD brain would see all the help and initially think, “Oh, my parents can't keep me safe, look at all these strangers.” It seems like it would take months of intervention before something would be expected to click in her head. You are doing a great job, you deserve a lot of support for not having any at first.
